Start a survival garden and learn how to can. Our grandparents and great grandparents did it every summer and fall in preparation for winter. They had fresh vegetables all winter long that way! You can find lots of online resources on how to can vegetables and even meat; but I think your best bet would be either taking a class or finding a book on canning. You want as much knowledge as possible to prevent storing a bunch of food only to find it’s gone bad due to a bad seal.

If you can see fish in shallow water, you can probably spear the fish with a sharpened stick easier then using a hook and bait especially if you need to eat.You can also keep you hands quietly in the water and grab the fish when it swims by.You can use a pocket also to try and stab the fish keep it under water or tape the knife to a small tree limb to make a spear, anything will work when your hungry.

An important wilderness survival skill is knowing how to fish, which requires basic supplies like a fishing hook and string. You can keep them in a small container in your backpack or pocket.Bait can be found under old piles of wood or brush where worms and bugs hide. You can use a safety pin as a hook if you have one pinned to your clothes or backpack in a emergency.
